Puakea Carbon Fiber 8.25″ Catch 22 Paddleboard Paddle
The Blue paddle is a great option for someone just learning to paddle correctly or for larger guys. The largest blade at 8.5” wide, it is also thicker at the top allowing for a ton of water to be grabbed with less cavitation, Introductory the a positive catch.
Puakea blade design has less angle to give the paddlers maximum efficiency on their stroke. The most important part of the stroke is the and when paddling properly, the angle created by the length of the shaft will naturally allow for the best catch without having to add a large angle on the blade. This will ensure you get the best lock on the water, or catch upon entry.
By having more volume at the bottom of the blade and less angle allows you to create that initial catch without needing a large scoop; which would also create a a sticky release. Besides minimizing the scoop, the blade also has less dihedral (or Ridge). Larger dihedrals will help keep the paddle from moving back and forth on the stroke (flutter) but you pay for that on the exit. The side to side motion is caused by trying to pull the paddle faster through the water than the board wants to move. With the catch 22 paddles you are actually learning to be patient and let the board come up to speed instead. The reality is The Paddle Is Teaching You.
The shaft is a custom textured tapered oval shape allowing for maximum comfort and alignment with the blade in the water. More comfort means a relaxed grip and less fatigue in the forearms. The taper is gradual as well so you can get a nice feel when you choke up with the top hand under the handle for starts or sprinting.
