2nd Annual Lake Havasu Heat Race – LHCOCC

Safety & Race Info:

• Waive your paddles in the air to alert safety boats in the area if your craft needs assistance.

• All safety boats will have an identifying flag and will monitor the racing craft to lend assistance if needed. All safety boats will have radio communication with each other and be equipped with tow lines, reserve life jackets and basic first aid kits.

• The Lead safety boat will lead the race and identify turn buoys to all racers.

• A middle safety boat will start each heat using a horn and dropped flag.  They will patrol the lake-side of the course, after the start, and push ahead to mark/monitor the turn buoys after the lead boat makes the turn.

• Follow the lead safety boat. Do not paddle on the lake-side of the course. Stay between the shoreline and the middle safety boats. If you paddle outside of the designated race course you will be subject to disqualification. Always comply with instructions from any safety boat.

• The Drag safety boat will patrol behind, or in the proximity of, the last racing craft.

RACE SCHEDULES (LONG & SHORT)​

LONG COURSE – PRE-RACE MEETING – 6:30 AM – North end of parking lot on the sandy area.

Required Attendees:

  OC6:              Steersman and one other crewperson from each crew,

  OC1/OC2:      All racers

  SUP:              All racers

  !! Do not leave beach until beach flags drop !!

RACE START TIME – 7:00 AM (be at event beach start-line no later than 6:55 AM)

Race Line-Up:

1. Heat 1: All OC 6 Unlimited Canoes – Location:  Start Line off of event beach

2. Heat 2: All OC 6 Traditional Canoes and Elite SUP – Location: Start Line off of event beach

3. Heat 3: All OC1 and OC2 – Location: Start Line off of event beach

Start Timing:

   Approximately one (1) minute apart for each heat.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:​

1.  Depending on total number of canoes participating in the Long-Course Race, Heats 1 and 2 may be consolidated into a single start.

2.  All races/heats finish at Beach Finish Line. Please clear the finish line and beach your canoes promptly so as to make room for other racers.

3.  Always be aware and use caution around other boaters utilizing lake waters. Use extra caution near the Channel entrance, and avoid Channel entrance if possible.

4.  Avoid grouping canoes on the beach (keep canoes at least 15 feet apart).

5.  Long Course race turnaround point is Friendly Island (also called Beaver Island) (see large orange/yellow buoys. See course map).​

SHORT COURSE – PRE-RACE MEETING – 9:30 AM – North end of parking lot on the sandy area.

  OC6:              Steersman and one other crewperson from each crew,

  OC1/OC2:      All racers

  SUP:              All racers

  Kayak:         All racers

  Surf Ski:       All racers

RACE START TIME – 10:00 AM (be at event beach start-line no later than 9:55 AM)          ​

Race Line-Up:

1.  Heat 1:   All OC -6 Canoes – Location:  Event Beach Start-Line

2.  Heat 2:   All OC-1/OC-2/Kayak/Surf Ski- Location: Event Beach Start-Line

3.  Heat 3:   12’6’ and longer SUP – Location: Event Beach Start-Line

4.  Heat 1A: Sport Class SUP (***Inflatable SUP) – Location: Beach Start/Finish Line

Start Timing:

    Approximately one (1) minute apart for each heat.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

1. Inflatable SUP Course is from the Beach, South to the bay buoy-line (second buoy from East shore-line point) and back to the finish line at the beach. See course map.)
